In this installment, Dan Herring discusses what the heat treatment industry will look like by the middle of this century. He cites market studies and economic forecast models that suggest that the global heat treatment market will grow to between 130–150 billion U.S. dollars by no later than 2030 and to around 200–220 billion U.S. dollars by 2040, barring another significant or sustained global economic event.

Bethany Leone’s exceptional abilities have seen her rise to be the lead editor of Heat Treat Today. As managing editor, she plans, coordinates, and executes all the content seen on various platforms such as the print magazine, website, e-newsletters, and podcasts. Her passion for research and writing started with what she refers to as “the built environment,” which can be understood as bridges, buildings, and other societal infrastructures. She is endlessly curious about how things work and how things have come to be as they are, and she's rolled over this curiosity to heat treating and has done an outstanding job learning the industry and building relationships with key people in the industry. She manages 3-5 other editorial staff and interfaces with the nearly dozen or so individuals responsible for producing helpful, timely content on a continual basis. Bethany has made it a priority to know each person on her team to best help them succeed at their jobs. She is a servant leader who models those qualities she desires to see in her team. She is classically a “Renaissance woman” with broad interests in theatre, dance, nature, music, communications, research, and living a “good” life — meaning a life that is honoring to her Lord, Jesus Christ.
This is the first time Heat Treat Today has nominated one of its own for this award. Her helpfulness to hundreds of people in the heat treat industry and leadership in Heat Treat Today’s growth are the top reasons for her receiving this award. Read more about Bethany here.

Richard Perez, quality technician at Newton Heat Treating, started as a receiver, counting and measuring parts while still in high school. Thirteen years later, he is in his current position, specializing in pyrometry. As part of a quality team that holds merit status with Nadcap, He has contributed to the company's Nadcap merit status for three consecutive audits. His expertise spans a range of areas within the aluminum heat treating industry, including heat treatment processes, inspection, pyrometry, and straightening requirements. He writes processes to prime and industry standard specifications, works with clients on technical issues, and writes up the rework process when needed. He is in charge of the entire pyrometry department and has experience hosting audits with leading prime manufacturers including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon. Richard is also a role model for many, endeavoring to listen actively, mentor others, and have a hands-on approach in production processes to ensure his team meets, and sometimes exceeds, client expectations with a quality product and timely deliveries. His dedication to what he does, along with his character, likeability, and attention to detail, further contributes to his strong leadership and work ethic. A recent accomplishment was his nomination, and subsequent approval, as a voting member of AMEC after he participated in two committee meetings as a liaison. Richard’s current objective is to complete the YES program offered by MTI and graduate this October, which will provide him with a comprehensive understanding of the aerospace and heat treating industries.
