Day 2 at FNA: Awards Abound for Heat Treaters!

The final day of Furnaces North America (FNA) began for Heat Treat Today with the presentation of a plaque to Timothy Joseph Wright (T.J. Wright), who served as a Major General in the U.S. Army, as well as a critical player in the history of heat treating, specifically as a past president of Wirco.
The day ended with the Metal Treating Institute's (MTI) final event where MTI Yes Management Training graduates were recognized, awards were given to individuals and companies who have uniquely served the industry and MTI, and the 2025 MTI officers and board of trustees were announced.

40 Under 40 Class of 2024 Highlights: Ethan Castle and Roberto Torres-Barrios

Heat Treat Today is privileged to oversee the 40 Under 40 recognition awards highlighting a group of rising young leaders in the North American heat treat industry every year. The Class of 2024 is a high-achieving, motivated, and heart-felt group of significant contributors to the heat treat market. Here are two highlights from this year’s class.

Ethan Castle is a plant manager at Paulo who is dedicated to helping clients succeed. An advocate for clients, Ethan challenges Paulo to provide higher quality services. Throughout his time at Paulo, he has: developed and managed high-level partnerships with clients including tier one manufacturers and OEM's; conducted business reviews with key accounts to forecast sales, identified necessary improvements, and discussed new opportunities; reviewed and monitored account KPI data to identify trends and report findings and analyses to upper management; presented plant sales metrics, pipeline, and strategy to the executive leadership team; negotiated and resolved pricing agreements, and credit claims. Ethan works directly with manufacturers in a variety of industries to provide tailored heat treatment and metal finishing solutions for the parts that they produce. Taking a hands-on approach, he makes sure that all client requirements are understood and communicated throughout the team, believing the first run process for any client is critical. Roberto Torres-Barrios started his career at Mattsa Furnace Company during his university studies, working as a trainee engineer at the different production areas from machine workshops, Spare Parts Department, and Manufacturing, to the Service Area. He demonstrated an ability to absorb knowledge in each of the areas in which he was involved. Once Roberto graduated with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí, he fully committed himself to the company and became the head of the Manufacturing Department for the production of heat treat furnaces, leading Mattsa's workforce. He was also quality and productivity manager and improved the company's processes. Most recently, Roberto was promoted to field service manager and has participated in many manufacturing, maintenance, and installation projects of heat treat equipment for corporations including American Axle & Manufacturing, Meritor Manufacturing, Timken, Sisamex, Dana Incorporated, and VCST.
