Heat Treat Economic Indicators: November 2024 Results

The four heat treat industry-specific economic indicators have been gathered by Heat Treat Today each month since June 2023. Last month, suppliers expected the economy to experience contraction in all four indices. This month, for the first time since May 2024, all four economic indicators are reflecting anticipated growth.

Remembering Veterans Among Us
|
Veteran’s Day 2024 falls on Monday, November 11, which is the actual date set aside to honor United States military veterans. The U.S. holiday coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, both celebrated in countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I formally concluded at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the armistice with Germany went into effect.)
It is our honor to recognize some of the veterans who work among us in the heat treat industry:

- Larry Bradley, quality manager at Bodycote, served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1969, reaching the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant. Larry fought in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, and a Purple Heart, among other commendations.
- Bob Brock, technical sales manager at AFC-Holcroft, served in the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1991 and currently serves in the U.S. Reserves. Bob reached the rank of E5 Sergeant and participated in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
- Zane Goucher, senior field service technician at Controls Service, Inc., served in the U.S. Army from 2002 to 2008, reaching the rank of E-5 Sergeant.
- James Haggerty, owner of Global Aluminum Brazing Consulting LLC, served in the U.S. Army at West Point from 1981 to 1986, reaching the rank of SP4. James received the Army Achievement and the Army Commendation Medal, the latter for finding cyanide contaminated material and avoiding any loss of life at USMA.
- Bradley Johnson, quality engineer at Bodycote, served in the U.S. Army from 2000 to 2007, reaching the rank of E5 Sergeant. Following the 9/11 attacks, Bradley's unit was mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom.
- Michael Kerbert, vacuum furnace operator at Peter's Heat Treating, Inc., served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 2000 to 2009, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. Michael was stationed at Camp Spiker in Iraq and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
- Jon Tirpak has worked in the heat treat industry for 42 years (as of October 2023). Jon served in the U.S. Air Force from 1982 to 1988, reaching the rank of Captain. He worked extensively with advanced materials and manufacturing and was recognized with several commendations.
- John Vanas, owner and president of Euclid Heat Treating, served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972, reaching the rank of Seaman Third Class. John served on board the USS Lexington in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Danny Woodring, quality/ISO and flow team manager at UPC-Marathon, served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1996, reaching the rank of Sergeant Major/E9, and in the Army National Guard from 1996 to 2022. Danny participated in three combat tours.
- Timothy Wright, owner of Wirco for 30 years, served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army National Guard, reaching the rank of Major General. He participated in the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and the United Nation’s SFOR in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
